In January 2023, four renowned Nigerians passed away.

In the first few weeks of 2023, notable Nigerians passed away from illnesses and other unidentified causes.
Four well-known Nigerians who passed away and whose names will never be forgotten are as follows:

Peace Anyiam. -Osigwe

The creator of the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, passed away on January 9 at the age of 53 in a hospital in Lagos.

In her final Instagram post, the businesswoman had said that she was enjoying a “coffee break” before passing away.

Anyiam-Osigwe was hailed as a unique creative and visionary leader in the cinema and television industries with an amazing personality. She served as the Association of Movie Producers’ (AMP) president until her passing.

A number of notable people, including President Muhammadu Buhari, published statements in her honour.

Weekend Akinola (Baba Feyikogbon)

On Monday, January 9, news of the passing of seasoned actor Sunday Akinola, also known as Baba Feyikogbon, was released.

The 80-year-old suffered from memory loss, hypertension, and renal failure for several years prior to passing away.

With the well-known weekly Feyikogbon series, which ran on NTA Channel 7, Lagos for more than 13 years during the 1980s and 1990s, Akinola gained notoriety.

In addition to acting, the Ogun-born actor was a musician and a former soldier who joined the army immediately before the Nigerian Civil War.

Femi Ogunrombi (Papa Ajasco)

Papa Ajasco in the WAP TV comedy series Papa Ajasco and Company was portrayed by actor and music educator Femi Ogunrombi, who passed away on January 14 on a Saturday.

Ogunrombi attended Obafemi Awolowo University to study drama and music.

He was a skilled composer, music and video director, voice coach, and multi-instrumentalist.

Ogunrombi served as Papa Ajasco at Papa Ajasco & Company when Abiodun Ayoyinka was away.

Legal practitioner Abba Bello Haliru

On January 7, news of the passing of Barrister Abba Bello Haliru, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the House of Representatives from the Birnin Kebbi/Kalgo/Bunza Federal Constituency, was released.

He passed away after a brief illness, according to Alhaji Abubakar Shehu, director general of the PDP Governorship Campaign Council, who confirmed his death.

The late Abba was the first child of Dr. Bello Haliru, the former PDP national chairman.

Bello Relisco, the current member of the House of Representatives, was defeated by him in the party’s primary last year, earning him the PDP nomination.
