Favour Benson Discusses IWD2023's Theme: "Embrace Equity"

March 8 is International Women’s Day (IWD), a day set aside to recognise and honour the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.

Additionally, it acts as a call to action for increased gender equality.

IWD 2023’s theme, #EmbraceEquity, highlights the significance of gender equity in all spheres of society.

The day is significant because it gives us a chance to consider how far women have come in society and how much work still needs to be done to achieve true gender equality. Additionally, it enables us to inspire and uplift one another while recognising and appreciating the contributions made by women across a range of industries.

For instance, in Africa, women and men do not yet enjoy economic equality.

She said:

“Despite the difficulties faced worldwide, many women are happy to see today, March 8, designated as International Women’s Day, when we celebrate our women.

Since equal opportunity for men and women in Nigeria is a challenge, the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day, #EmbraceEquity, is essential.
Women are left out of so many things, but many of them have never given up or shied away from their responsibilities no matter how challenging things get.

As women, we must constantly remind ourselves of our significance, the value of equal opportunities, our shared humanity, and the necessity of maintaining our commitment to equity.

We call on the government to give women a greater voice in national affairs today;
