The Oyo State Government has promised that 360 housing units in Ibadan’s Ajoda Housing Estate will be completed by the end of 2022.

Barrister Bayo Lawal, Chairman of the Oyo State Housing Corporation (OYSHC), gave the assurance during an inspection and tour of ongoing work on the site and other projects in the state.

Members of the Oyo State House of Assembly Committee on Land and Housing accompanied him on the tour.

Noting that the project is currently being hampered by low subscription, Lawal urged the public to subscribe to the 360 housing units, adding that an agreement has been reached to begin construction of roads around allocated plots.

While discussing the reasons for the delay, he mentioned the rising cost of building materials, the Covid-19 pandemic, and other challenges.

He stated that what caused the problem was that many investors do not want to tie up funds that will not be used. He urged off-takers to take advantage of the situation and subscribe.

According to him, Ajoda Estate is a one-of-a-kind modern housing unit with all the necessary amenities such as an industrial borehole, drainages, a good road network, electrification, and easy access to the Ife-Ibadan and Lagos-Ibadan Expressways.

“We appeal to off-takers, particularly civil servants, government officials, cooperative societies, and Federal and State institutions, to take advantage of this development and subscribe,” he said.

Similarly, the team inspected the 1.82 and 5.51 kilometre road networks on the 1,000 plots of land to be allocated to interested members of the public at Ajoda Estate.

Olatunde Kehinde, Vice Chairman of the Oyo State House of Assembly Committee on Land and Housing, expressed satisfaction with the level of work and commended OYSHC for carrying out the project in his remarks.

Mr Alao Bashir, General Manager of RATCON, the Contractor in charge of the road project, also stated that the two road projects would be completed with asphalt and concrete drainages on both sides.
