Sallah message: Peter Obi urges Nigerians to prioritise peace and the rule of law

In the spirit of Ramadan, Labour Party Presidential Candidate Peter Obi has urged Nigerians to stay focused on peace and the rule of law and resist the temptation to be distracted.

Obi stated this in a Sallah message to Nigerians, particularly Muslims, on the occasion of this year’s Eid il Fitr. On Thursday, the message was made public in Abuja.

He stated that the Holy Month of Ramadan was for all to practise restraint, decorum, and humility; it also urged all faithful to be fair and just in all dealings; to help the needy and heal the sick; and to promote mutual understanding and peace within communities.

Obi noted that these injunctions promote the values of universal social justice, world peace, and human progress.

According to the Labour Party’s flag bearer, Nigeria, the only nation we have as our own, is experiencing insecurity, deprivation, unemployment, and, most recently, divisive flawed elections caused by the activities of fringe elements who do not respect the rule of law and the wishes of our people.

He stated that they have used impunity and exploited weak national institutions to subvert popular will through a variety of nefarious activities directed at our people and nation.

He also stated, “We remain hopeful that these challenges will be overcome with minimal disruption to the polity, nation, and national interest.”

According to Obi, he and his Vice Datti Baba-Ahmad have been subjected to a slew of distinct allegations and fake news, but have refrained from responding in honour of the holy months of Lent and Ramadan.

“The most egregious of these acts is the allegation of treason for speaking up and following due process,” he added. It is now widely known that perpetrators of state capture and their acolytes continue to attack Datti and I, as well as the Labour Party and the Obedient Family, for seeking legal redress to recover our stolen electoral mandate.

“Efforts to dissuade us from pursuing rightful judicial recourse have included state deployment of deep fake audio, identity theft, impersonation, trolls, and fighting words, but we have remained guided and responsible in the true spirit of Ramadan.”

While wishing all Muslim faithful a happy Sallah, the former Anambra state governor congratulated them on a successful Ramadan fast and urged his supporters to stay focused on peace and the rule of law, assuring them that “the struggle to reclaim their mandate is in good stead, and on course,” pointing out that a new Nigeria that is safe and secure for all Nigerians is indeed possible.
