Sheik Goni Aisami, a Yobe Cleric, was Killed by 2 Soldiers who were Arrested.

FastNews reports that 2 soldiers have been detained by the Yobe State Police Command in connection with the assassination of Sheikh Goni Aisami, a prominent Islamic scholar who was killed on Friday at around 9 p.m. while traveling from Kano to Gashua.

Several local sources claimed that the preacher was murdered by the troops after giving them a ride from the neighbouring community of Jaji-maji in the Karasuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State to Nguru military checkpoint.

The sources said he was shot dead while his car, a red Honda Accord (Discussion Continues), which was taken away by the soldiers before they were apprehended by the police.

Confirming the incident, spokesman for the Yobe State Police Command, Dungus Abdulkarim, said the two arrested soldiers are Lance Corporal John Gabriel and Lance Corporal Adamu Gideon of 241 Recce Battalion, Nguru, Yobe State.

He said the two suspects had been taken to Criminal Investigation Department of the command in Damaturu for investigation.

The popular Islamic scholar was buried on Saturday in Gashua town of Yobe State amid tears by thousands of his students, family members as well as associates.
