CAN tells police that arresting Nwosu in a church is inappropriate.

FastNews reports that the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has criticized the arrest by the state police command of former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha’s son-in-law, Chief Uche Nwosu, on Anglican Church grounds.

“We feel immensely ashamed by this ugly occurrence and are disturbed that the Nigeria Police showed no regard even for the House of God,” Pastor Adebayo Oladeji, the Media Assistant to CAN President Rev Samson Ayokunle, said in a statement yesterday. We can’t recall if this type of desecration of God has ever occurred in our country before.

“The CAN has nothing to apologize for over what the police did because we were never and would never be a party to their horrendous act. The police officers that did the disgraceful thing should appropriately apologize without giving any excuse. We expect them to be more circumspect in the performance of their duties.

“We are not asking the police or the security agencies not to do their constitutional duties, but the idea of desecrating the House of God in doing so is totally unacceptable, unfortunate, and reprehensible.”

CAN urge the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba, to call his men to order and continue to respect all houses of worship, whether church or mosque.

It warned: “This type of action should never happen again in our country.”
