Delta 2022: As NSF gets underway on Wednesday, state contingents arrive.

Before the 21st National Sports Festival, also known as Delta 2022, opens on Wednesday, athletes from all over the nation are anticipated in Asaba today and tomorrow.

The bid to host the fiesta, which is Nigeria’s equivalent of the Olympics Games, was won by Delta at the conclusion of the most recent NSF in Benin City last year.

Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has since put in place several structures to realise his dream of delivering the best ever Games in history, including two brand new indoor sports halls, a new swimming pool, a new tartan track, a new shooting range, all within the Stephen Keshi stadium, and a new hockey pitch at Okpanam. There are also hostels at the NYSC camp in Issele-Uku and in various Asaba schools.

Meanwhile, a total of 11, 000 athletes will compete in Delta 2022, which is approximately 2,000 more than the previous edition held in Edo State.

Chris Anazia, Secretary of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), confirmed yesterday that state contingents will arrive today and tomorrow.

“On Monday and Tuesday, we expect athletes from various states to arrive. The opening ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday. I am confident that the athletes, coaches, and sports administrators will have a good time in Delta. “I wish everyone a safe journey to Asaba,” said Anazia, Director General of the Delta State Sports Commission. “Whenever Delta agrees to do something, we always strive for the best. We will not only host a sports festival, but the best in the Games’ history.”

Meanwhile, the Festival Torch of Unity has arrived in Delta State and will begin a tour of all local government headquarters for chairmen and council officials to experience.

According to Chief Solomon Ogba, the LOC’s Advisor, the Festival Torch of Unity will arrive in Asaba on November 30, the day of the opening ceremony.

“The Delta 2022 National Sports Festival flag hoisting ceremony will take place at 4pm on the day of the opening ceremony on November 30,” he said.

Cycling will be the first event for Asaba 2022 on Wednesday morning, and the festival will conclude on December 10.
