However, there have been various scandals around entertainers associating with politicians since the 2020 End SARS protests. Several prominent musicians who have backed politicians have been chastised on social media, and this recent award is no exception.

Some critics say that some of the people that received awards yesterday also criticized some entertainers when they went to visit Vice President Osinbajo, and they believe that it is hypocritical of them to accept an award from the Lagos State Government.
